INFORMATION ON VOTING FOR THE AUGUST 24 PRIMARY ELECTION


 The Vermont Primary Election is August 24. This is to provide some information on how you can vote, even if you are not able to go to your polling place on August 24.

ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE?


The deadline to register to vote in the Primary Election is 5:00 p.m., August 18.  If you are not sure whether you are registered to vote, you can review the voter registration checklist located in the following places:

Ward 1:
Mater Christi School -100 Mansfield Ave
University of Vermont Bailey Howe

Ward 2:
H.O. Wheeler School – 6 Archibald St.                                                              
Multigenerational Center – 241 N. Winooski Avenue                                    

Ward 3: 
St. Joseph’s School – 20 Allen Street                                      
Fletcher Free Library – 235 College Street                                         

Ward 4: 
St. Mark’s Youth Center – 1271 North Avenue, next to the church
Gadue Dry Cleaning – 1127 North Avenue, in the shopping center

Ward 5: 
Burlington Electric Department – 585 Pine St.
Price Chopper – 595 Shelburne Road

Ward 6: 
Burlington Telecom – 200 Church St.
Burlington Housing Authority Highrise – 230 St. Paul Street

Ward 7: 
Robert Miller Recreation Center – [Armory] 130 Gosse Court
Bessery’s Quality Market – 1398 North Avenue

The Voter Checklists are also available for viewing on the counters in the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office lobby.

If you are not on the voter registration checklist, you may register at the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (note that the office is open until 5:00pm on the registration deadline of August 18).  You can also register at any Department of Motor Vehicles Office or by downloading a copy of the Application for Addition to the Checklist and mailing a completed copy to City Hall at the above address by August 18.  The application is located at: 

EARLY/ABSENTEE VOTING
If you are unable to vote on August 24, early or absentee voting is available by submitting a Request for Early or Absentee Ballot to the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office, City Hall either in person or by mail.  If you plan to mail in your absentee ballot, the request for the form needs to be made by 4:30 on August 20. You may request an early or absentee ballot to be mailed to you by calling the Clerk's Office at 865-7000 or by filling out an absentee ballot request form, available on-line at: http://www.ci.burlington.vt.us/ct/elections/
All early or absentee ballots must be received at the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office by 2:00 p.m. on Primary Election Day, August 24, 2010.  Ballots that may have been mailed but still not received by the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office by 2:00 p.m. on Primary Election Day will not be counted.
You can also vote early on August 23 by coming into City Hall before 7:30pm.  As a convenience, the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office will also be open on Saturday, August 21 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
PRIMARY ELECTION DAY, AUGUST 24
On August 24, Primary Election Day, you can vote between 7am-7pm at the assigned polling place for your Ward.  A list of the poll locations for each Ward is located at:

SUMMARY OF DEADLINES:
August 18, 5:00pm: deadline to register to vote [City Hall, Clerk-Treasurer's Office, or DMV]
August 20, 5:00pm: deadline to request an absentee ballot that will be mailed back [865-7000]
August 21, 9am – noon: Clerk-Treasurer’s Office offers extended weekend hours for early voting. CELEBRATE the VOTE parade from Battery Park to City Hall, 10 AM. Come early to make signs at the police station community room.
August 23, 7:30pm: deadline to pick-up absentee ballot at City Hall in-person
August 24, 2:00pm: deadline to receive ALL absentee ballots at City Hall
August 24, 7am – 7pm: polls are open [polls are locations where people vote in each ward*]
