Registered to vote?

To vote, you have to be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old and a resident of Vermont and the town in which you are registered. It’s that simple.

As of Aug. 1, Vermont had 445,717 registered voters, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. Not bad, you say? Well, there’s clearly room for more. For the 2008 general election (you might recall we had a presidential election going on that year), 454,466 Vermonters were registered to vote.

There are plenty of reasons to want in on this year’s primary, no matter what your political persuasion: Democrats have five candidates running for governor, two for lieutenant governor, two for secretary of state and two for auditor. Republicans have two candidates for lieutenant governor and two for secretary of state.
